In this paper, a small scale solar drying equipment was designed based on the climatic conditions of the Guangxi regional. The performance of drying equipment has been studied by the computer simulations and experiments. Comparing the results of computer simulation with the actual experimental results, their change tendency was similar, which have been obtained. At the same time, the solar drying equipment has more advantages than the conventional dryers through the experiment of drying bananas.In this paper, the performance of solar drying equipment were analyzed through the computer simulation, the results showed that the highest temperature in the solar dryer can reach 370K during the Summer Solstice, and the average temperature of the air in the drying interior can reach 340K or more. After the 18:00, the solar radiation disappeared, the average temperature of the air inside could be maintained above 320K over 5 hours. It can be seen that the solar dryer heat utilization rate can reach 71%. At the drying experiment, the natural convection of air can completely cover the entire space of the drying chamber, so that in the actual experiment, the solar drying equipment could discharge the water vapor, which was evaporated by the materials, in a timely manner. In the actual experiment of no-load, the variation of temperature in the drying chamber is similar as the temperature of the simulation experiment. Under the similar weather conditions, using the solar drying equipment to drying the banana slices, after two days, about 74%of banana slices are moved out.Fully aware of the analysis could be known that this solar dryer could work around the clock, and the time of drying material would be effectively reduced, which provide the theoretical basis for large-scale used and optimization.
