As a natural disaster, the earthquake always threaten people’s life.The several violent earthquakes of the history have brought great loss to the people. So the seismic design occupies an important position in the entire structural design,it aslo have an great relationship with the people, especially for the irregular structure design. Therefore, the seismic performance of irregular and research of energy dissipation is very necessayr. Firstly, this paper describes the research status of the irregular plane structure and a determine method,which is very important to the irregular structure. Secondly, introduces the theory and a method of seismic analysis, especially the time history analysis method and the performance that base on the seismic design theory.Thirdly,the paper introduces the basic principle of the static elastoplastic(Pushover analysis), the research status and capacity spectrum method.Doing the Pushover analysis and the seismic performance evaluation on a 7 storey irregular structure by using the finite element ETABS software. Finally,the paper discuss the characteristics, mechanism and working principle of the viscoelastic damper about the energy dissipation structure. Arranged 3 models into the viscoelastic damper on the basis of this model, then do the nonlinear time history analysis under the rare earthquake. The research contents are as follows:(1)Using ETABS software to establish a finite element model of 7 layers which is irregular,then do Puhsover analysis and evaluation. The gravity load is defined as a nonlinear one,then choose 2 different loading modes,4 kinds of different loading direction on the basis of the model.For the irregular structures,find the seismic performance influence of different loading mode and direction by checking base shear top displacement curve and the change of the plastic hinge.Secondly, using the capacity spectrum method to evaluate the seismic performance of buildings when it under the frequently occurred earthquake and the rare earthquake.Confirm the vertex displacement of the structure through the Capacity spectrum method.They can satisfy the requirements of seismic code, whether under the frequently occurred earthquake or the rare earthquake. So it can be used as a reference in the future design.(2)Arrange the viscoelastic damper that have three layout into the model. Then analy the original structure and the 3 models through the nonlinear time history under the frequently occurred earthquake and the rare earthquake,so as to study the effect of energy dissipation structure and the optimal layout method of viscoelastic damper. Compare with the displacement, inter layer shear and the vertex displacement, the result shows that the energy dissipation structures have an obvious damping effect than the dissipation structure.Lastly,we get the best layout of 3 model which have arrange the viscoelastic damper.
