The city waterfront public open space is the image window provides a variety of recreational activities for the public. It is also an important leisure venues.Since 21 century,it raised the movement with the waterfront development and further development around the world. Nanchang city is located at the junction of the Ganjiang River and Poyang Lake. It has formed a unique historical cultural city due to the unique geographical environment. As large numbers of city historic buildings and architectures are located in the the waterfront, therefore,the development of waterfront area is particularly important.Researching and developing the waterfront space with comprehensive system will enhance the green waterfront platform of Nanchang city, and enhance the overall image of Nanchang city,what provide the reference for Nanchang to create "waterfront Nanchang, characteristics of the iconic city".The Ganjiang River embankment landscape planning and design is in the range of Nanchang City "one river two sides" of the city flood control embankment along the river on the east coast, line length of 8 km, an average width of 200 meters on both sides.Based on the related theories of environmental psychology,landscape ecology, water resource protection and utilization theories, landscape andimage related theory,and city flood safety theory,and combined with the planning design and reconstruction of three typical waterfront landscapes in Changsha, Shanghai and Guangzhou,the author summarize the principle and design method of landscape planning and design of waterfront in Nanchang.In order to improve the living environment for the overall goal of Nanchang, meet the requirements in public entertainment, and optimizate Nanchang city ecological environment, the author comprehensive analysis the Nanchang Ganjiang river waterfront characteristics and problems existing in waterfront road, which formed landscape belt, growed up"a core area a belt three groups" planning structure, waterfront central square, Waterfront landscape belt, Jiangxi and Nanchang’s History and culture group, China typical cultural group and world typical cultural group.
