With the decreasing of conventional energy resources and the environmental problems are severe day by day. All the nations put the development of the renewable energy to a new standard. The wind power is relative mature and will get great development in the contemporary society which is of great energy shortage. Thus, the effect of the wind power to the grid received more attention.The inherent randomness, volatility and intermittent of wind power restricted the development of it in the power system, Large-scale wind power integration brought the challenges on the safe and stable operation of grid and power quality. Storage technologies hold the characteristic of high energy density, fast respond, precise adjustment and it was hot that introduced the storage technologies to the areas of renewable energy. How to use storage technologies to suppress the fluctuations of wind power became an important research subject.In that context, this paper did some research on the objective of suppressing the fluctuations of wind power, the strategies and optimal capacity of hybrid energy storage system, in order to configure the most reasonable hybrid energy storage system on the basis of the reliability. The main work of the paper can be summarized as following parts:To start with, using the actual output of wind power to adapt the desired output. On the basis of the different values of the wind power, make the difference into high frequency components and high frequency components. Assigning them to the storage of power and energy and then came up a new strategy for charging and discharging the hybrid energy storage system. According the actual power output of the He Bei wind field, this paper simulated the proposed model with MATLAB, and tests the validity of the model.Next, finding a solution for obtain the optimal capacity of the hybrid energy storage system on the basis that the output of the wind power satisfied the requirements of integration. The method for obtaining the optimal capacity is optimizing the economic objective including the costs of investment, operating and punishing. The strategy of the hybrid energy storage system which was limited by the power and capacity, was proposed in this paper and the algorithm based the Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO) and then the index was given to evaluate the solution.The final results showed that the hybrid energy storage system was better at load shifting and it could lower the costs and improve the life of the storage.Besides, in order to verify that energy storage could shift load and join in the economic dispatch of power system, the paper modeled the microgrid with energy storage:first, established the microgrid with a wind turbine, a photovoltaic cell, a boiler, a fuel cell, a diesel engines and an energy storage system. Then, given the time-of-use (TOU) price, this paper optimized the economic function considering the profit of selling heat, the costs of investment, maintenance and power exchange between microgrid and grid with the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm. In addition, to verify the model and conclusions, this paper take the microgrid without energy storage as a reference. The optimization on the actual microgrid which contained the load of the typical day in winter got the optimal unit comments and total costs. Thus proved that energy storage could affect the economic dispatch, and furthermore, the model and the algorithm were proved reasonable and operable. Finally this paper gave some recommendation for future work.
