Energy efficiency in China is much lower than in developed countries, and efficient use of energy has become an urgent problem. Power factor is an important parameter of the power-utilized. Line loss is reduced and equipment capacity is effectively used by improving the power factor. At the same time companies can reduce cost. Therefore, to improve the power factor of power supply system has great significance. Electric machine is used as wide high-energy-consuming equipment. It accounts for about 50 percent of annual industrial electricity consumption. But the efficiency is relatively low. Power factor correction of induction machine is one of the effective ways to improve the power factor of the power system. Thus, improving the power factor of induction machine becomes a focus of concern. Under the premise of energy conservation, a reactive power compensation method for open-winding induction machine is studied in this paper.Firstly, the history of reactive power compensation development, several commonly used methods of induction machine reactive power compensation, and current development of open-winding induction machine drive are introduced. After study the structure of open-winding induction machine, the mathematic model of the induction machine is built. The working principle of open-winding induction machine is analyzed by the instantaneous power theory. Voltage sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) technique is used. SPWM working principle and implementation method are analyzed. Model of open-winding induction machine reactive power compensation is built by means of the MATLAB/SIMULINK. Under different load torques, simulations are done. It is proved that the method is effective for reactive power compensation of induction machine. Power factor is close to unit 1. Hardware and software of open-winding induction machine reactive power compensation device is designed based on TMS320F28335 of TI DSP system. Voltage PWM converters, power modules, processing circuit of voltage and current detection, isolation drive circuits and protection circuits are designed. Under the soft environment CCS3.3, the control program is written by the C language. Procedures are debugged. Experiment is no load. The rationality of the open-winding induction machine reactive power compensation designed is verified.
