The starter motor is the key component of automotive starting system and its performance poses a great impact on the starting and operational of the vehicle. In recent years, with the competition intensifying of the automobile market, more strict requirements on the performance of the starter motor are demanded. The method of motor optimization by experiment, trial-manufacture needs long development cycle and high cost. Therefore, the starter motor modeling optimization by using the computer aided software is deserved further research.Finite element electromagnetic simulation software-Ansoft is mainly used in this dissertation to electromagnetism simulation design of permanent magnet starter motor. And the static and dynamic magnetic field distribution characteristics of the permanent magnet starter motor are analyzed. On the basis of this, air gap length, the width of permanent magnet, the thickness of stator housing and polo-arc coefficients are changed to analyze the impact on the output performance and optimize the design of permanent magnet starter motor.Firstly, through the specific motor design datum, summed up the structure size needed for motor modeling. On the basic of fully realize the structure characteristics of permanent magnet starter motor with auxiliary pole, the differences of two and three pairs brush structure applied to this motor are analyzed, and using three pairs brush structure instead of two pairs brush structure to establish starter motor finite element model is obtained.Secondly, as Ansoft can’t simulate continuously, a method to realize the co-simulation of Matlab and Ansoft is proposed by using the ability of secondary development of Ansoft, and the method to implement the co-simulation of Matlab and Ansoft are introduced detailed.Once more, support vector machine (SVM) is applying to establish nonparametric model, and in order to achieve the optimal output performance, optimization design of the electromagnetic of starter motor is executed.Finally, the effect on electromagnetic performance of vehicle permanent magnet starter motor by vent hole spacing, vent position and vent aperture is analyzed, and the constraint correlation among the distance between vent and drain, the distance between each vent, the distance between vent and rotor diameter and the pitch is obtained.
