The nonlinear energy sink first appeared in the aeronautical research, and most of the studies about NES are based on single degree of freedom oscillator under sine wave. Besides almost all researchers tend to focus on the bandwidth and the design parameters of the NES. However, in the seismic design of high-rise buildings, the frequency spectrum characteristics of the earthquake is usually more complex, and it is difficult to find the effective damping bandwidth for NES. Therefore the past research is not suitable for the application of the high-rise building. This paper makes a further research on the following aspects based on the six degree of freedom structure under the seismic excitation:â‘  The method of the parameters on NES is studied, and the simulation of a 6 degree of freedom structure is established in MATLAB.â‘¡ The rationality about the parameters of NES under sine wave excitation is studied, and it is also paid attention to the the energy transfer efficiency of the top floor by using wavelet analysis.â‘¢ The parameters of NES under seismic oscillation is studied, and it is proved that the effective peak of the acceleration (EPA), the key parameters of seismic oscillation, is the optimal design parameters through comparing the different damping performance of the structure under different parameters.â‘£ A more accurate method to determine the near-fault ground motions, baker discriminant criterion, is provided based on the field earthquake records and wavelet analysis. And the methods that the residual wave which extracted velocity pulse as the far-field earthquake is provided based on ATC-63.The difference about the damping performance of the NES under near-field earthquake records and far-field earthquake is also studied in this paper. The research can provide reference for the analysis and design of NES in seimic design of the high-rise building.
