Abstract/Summary:
To enrich people’s life, an increasing number of urban street greenspace landscapes of high aesthetic values have been built. In a variety of landscapes, color is an essential and elementary factor and therefore requires consideration and optimization in the landscape design process. Unfortunately, the current landscaping implementations in the majority of cities over China either neglects the color factor or misuses the color, leading to consequences of flat and unvaried landscape color and even “color pollution” in the most severe situation. These negative consequences of color in turn lower the overall quality of the landscapes, reducing their recreational, ecological and aesthetic values, and ultimately impede the maintenance and improvement of citizens’ life quality. To address this issue, this thesis provides a comprehensive and thorough study on the urban street greenspace landscape based on color theory.First, the thesis reviews the background, development and challenges of color theory and urban street greenspace landscaping. Then the purpose, significance, contents, methodology of the color theory-based study on the urban street greenspace landscape and the thesis organization are described.Second, based on a thorough analysis of the theories on color and urban street greenspace landscaping, the thesis details the contents, principles and methods of the color theory-based design and the function and elements of the urban street greenspace landscape. The color theory-based designing is then applied to the different elements of the urban street greenspace landscape.Third, color theory-based design examples on three streets in Mianyang City are presented. This section gives a brief background ofMianyang City, describes the design process and contents in details and finally evaluates the design results.Last, the thesis draws conclusion, highlights novelties and presents limitations and future work of the color theory-based design for the urban street greenspace landscapes.
