With the increasing accommodations of handicapped persons in society, the i ncreased aging of population as well as the constant improvement of people’s life quality, people in society eager to build the barrier-free environment. Significantly,our architecture and environment construction aim at building a harmonious socie ty based on equality, friendship, mutual respect by caring for the disadvantaged.Since reform and opening up policy, our economy and culture have gradually improved and high education has been developed rapidly. The handicapped perso ns who raise their intellectual level expect to participate in much more community activities. The increasing number of handicapped persons in colleges and universi ties long for their study and life in campus more conveniently. Colleges and unive rsities should draw up proper measures to respond to the new requirement.Based on field research,the thesis has investigated and analyzed the barrier-fre e facilities of some universities in Sichuan province. It concluded the common and specific problems in this area and put forward measures for refinement. Taking th e old campus of Southwest University of Science and Technology as example, the thesis unfolds retrofit research for the common and specific problems of barrier-fr ee facilities on colleges and universities and provides the achievement of specific design as reference.
