The Initial Study Of Modeling And Pattern Of Mendun Stone In Southwest Shandong Province

The development of science and technology has significantly changed people’s daily life, while we were enjoying the modern era,it is ineluctably that we ignored the soul of Chinese traditional culture. Mendun Stone is one of the most essential elements of traditional dwellings, unfortunately, due to the lack of attention and protection, we could hardly find any unbroken Mendun Stones in modern cities. Moreover, most Mendun Stones that were left behind in the countryside had either been artificially damaged or had been eroded by harsh environment condition over time. The bad overall situation gives some cause for concern.Since Confucianism is originated from south east Shandong Providence, Mendun Stone in this area is highly impacted by this culture, therefore, has distinct sculpt, pattern, and expression way with Mendun Stones in other areas. By visiting sites, searching materials, and reviewing photos of “Sankong” and “Taierzhuang” relic, I summarized the characters of Mendun Stone in south east Shandong Providence in this paper. Also, I analyzed the booming of Mendun Stone Culture in this area, thus came up with the reasons of the origin of this culture, and the insights of the extraordinary variability of Mendun Stone across different time periods as well as different geographical regions. Overall, the biggest art feature about the Mendun Stone in south-west Shandong province is the design follows the ideas "hemispherical dome" and "simple but elegant" in Confucianism. Meanwhile, the feature of Mendun Stone design significantly influenced modern Architecture. According to large volumes of case study, we can have a deeper sense of the charm of Mendun stones and enhance people’s feeling of this type of art. Only dong deep research and analysis that can we raise the public awareness of Mendun Stones in Southwest Shandong province, fill the gaps(or vacancy) of oriented to Mendun Stone oriented studies in southwest Shandong province, and improve people’s awareness of the protection for Mendun Stone.
