With the improvement of people’s living standard, the car has become an indispensable means of transport in life, and the car’s performance is the focus of attention of the customer and manufacturer. As an important part of the core components of the engine of the car, piston ring directly affects engine’s efficiency and energy conservation. Piston ring closed gap size,light tightness parameters,higher radial thickness and ring parameters are important parameters affecting the quality of the manufacturing process requires full inspection. Currently, these parameters are mainly rely on manual with the general or special measuring tools to detect the presence of poor accuracy,low efficiency,high labor intensity shortcomings become an obstacle to the piston ring enterprises to improve product quality and productivity bottlenecks.This paper describes the piston ring seal of the visual light detection,which is a part of "Multi-station intelligent engine piston ring detection system".The system realizes the piston ring end gap, light tightness, higher radial thickness and ring parameters automatic detection and classification. Which use industrial camera image acquisition depression detecting Piston ring inside the transmission to a computer for digital image processing,draw closed space,light tightness,radial thickness and other parameters. In this paper, choosing laser sensor to detect piston ring central high.By detecting the integrated value compared with the corresponding standard values, the detected piston ring is divided into six categories for sorting.Light piston ring seal of the outer cylindrical roundness of the image presentation, on behalf of outer cylindrical piston ring and cylinder wall surface extent snapping a direct impact on the engine efficiency while blasting gas acting. Traditional detection methods within the cylinder piston ring is pressed into the analog detection ring, backlit gap piston ring and the inner ring outer cylindrical drum wall, according to penetrate the gap measured spot size and shape of piston rings roundness of the outer cylinder, thus also known as leaky degrees. This paper focuses on the use of light leakage detection method based on machine vision ring gauge, and the detection of the piston ring leaked preliminary discussion in a free state.The main contents includes:1、Introduction the overall design of multi-site engine piston ring intelligent detection system, including the operating mode, control programs and workflow;2、Study of the parameters of light leakage detection methods and implementation, with a focus camera surrounded by a circumferential ring between the piston ring and the partial small field of mining maps, to improve the resolution; collaborative improve the detection efficiency by more cameras.3、Through theoretical analysis and calculation, this paper proposes a reasonable choice light,industrial cameras,lenses,data acquisition card and other hardware, construct an image acquisition system;4、The design of piston ring light tightness visual inspection system software;5、Reasearch on piston ring type lines under a free state and calculate the conversion relations with piston ring curve inside the gauge ring and under a free state.For the multi-position detection system intelligent engine piston ring machine vision system, the inspection resolution reaches to 2μm, the detection efficiency reaches to 22/ min.
