Currently, the demand for building’s functional diversity is increasing. If a building has only one function, it is not only unable to meet the needs of the public, but also unreasonable economically from the aspect of building’s utilization. In order to realize the transformation of different functions or the upper and lower structural forms of the same building, the conversion layer has emerged as the times require.The forms of conversion layer are various, including beam-type conversion layer, truss conversion layer, thick plate conversion layer, oblique column conversion layer and other forms of conversion layer. However research theories on whether and how the diversities of the conversion layers affect the structural stress methods and the overall seismic performances are relatively less, so ETABS software is applied in this paper for analysis.A comparative analysis on six different arrangement methods with steel web members is adopted in this paper. First of all, modal analysis is conducted to study and compare the basic dynamic characteristics of these six models as a basis for the subsequent analysis; secondly the strength characteristics of each member bar in the conversion layer under the response spectrum conditions are analyzed; and then the response spectrum analysis is used to study whether the models’elastic seismic performances can meet the specifications and their differences on the elastic seismic performances. Finally nonlinear static pushover analysis is conducted among different models or different heights in the conversion layer of the same model to study their influences on the seismic performance in the events of rarely occurred earthquakes, and the weak layers of the structure are judged based on the development of plastic hinges.Studies have shown that for the dynamic characteristics of the structure, dynamic characteristics of the rest of the models are similar except the one without the diagonal web member. On the mechanical properties, different arrangement methods of web members have impacts on upper and lower chords and the adjacent layer columns. By static nonlinear analysis and comprehensive comparisons on performance points, shear displacement curves, interlaminar deformation and process development of the hinge, we can see that different arrangement forms of the conversion layer have little effect on the overall seismic performance of the structure, but different heights set in the conversion layer have a greater impact on the overall seismic performance of the structure with the higher of the conversion layer’s height, the worse of the overall seismic performance of the structure.This research aims to provide some understandings and help for the projects with similar structures whether it is on the structural mechanical behavior or the overall seismic performance, as well as references and options on the application of structural forms of the conversion layer in the future.
