This paper simulated the physical experiment about the interaction of the focusing wave and vertical cylinder. The focusing wave surface, hydrodynamic characteristics, wave run-up, point pressure on cylinder and total force were analyzed. And the characteristics of focusing wave and different scale cylinders were researched. These results provided a foundation for further studying the focusing waves and their interactions with structures.The wave generation method, wave absorbing method, computational scheme, boundary conditions were verified by simulating the linear regular wave. The piston type wave making method and source wave making method were both effective to simulate the regular wave by comparing the wave time series at different wavelengths, and the damping wave elimination method is effective, the wave reflection could be neglected. The regular waves with different wave parameters were simulated by piston type wave making method. The effects of the grid scale, time step and wave parameters on the simulated waves was explored, and the suggested values of time step and grid scale were given.Then, in this paper, focusing wave was simulated by the numerical model. Two methods was used to simulate focusing wave, that is, simulating wave spectrum and wave train. The simulated focusing wave were compared with experimental results at different positions. Considering the limitation of simulating wave train, simulating spectrum method was used in this paper. At the same time, the water particle velocity time series under focusing point was well simulated. The efficiency of the numerical model was verified.In chapter 4, the interaction of focusing wave and vertical cylinder was simulated with the same model scale and wave parameters as the physics experiment used. Numerical simulation of the focusing wave at different locations, point pressure at different point on the cylinder, water particle velocity and total force on the cylinder were compared with physical experimental results.In chapter 5, focusing wave and different scale cylinders were simulated. The wave run-up around the cylinder with different wave steepness was analyzed. The results showed that focusing wave surface had different characteristics after placing different scale cylinders. The total force and point pressure were also analyzed. Different scale cylinders had different point pressure characteristics. At the same time, the total maximum force and the Morsion formula results were compared for small scale and middle scale cylinders.
