| The conversion of old city is an unavoidable problem in the process of urbanization. In the background of a large demolition and construction of our country, few people have realized the historical and cultural significance of old cities. So, many old cities have been flattened in the process of urbanization. Only a few have been conversed successfully.In recent years, the urbanization of China also preheated the development of rural areas. The conversion problem occurred in these areas more than ever before. The town of Fangqiao in Yixing, Jiangsu province is an example of these areas. This thesis hopes to take Fangqiao as an example to explore the ways and means of this kind of conversion. So it can provide a reference to the urbanization of rural areas in China.For the content of conversion, usually it has three types-the conversion of overall style (the conversion of facades in the city), the conversion of a single building (change an old building to fit new functions), and the construction of a new building (to rebuild a building while keep the city texture). I take the conversion of a single building as my design content, to explore how to start a conversion form the problem an existing old building has encountered.I take the Fangqiao Supply and Marketing Cooperative as my design object. I try to begin my design with finding out the problems of site, structure, function and facade, and combine the present situation of this building to do with my conversion design.I divide my design into five parts-the design research, site investigation, design analysis, design development and achievement display. The data of the building is based on surveying while the methods of the conversions are based on case studies and site analysis. The comparison of different design probabilities will be done in the design development part, and finally to find out the best answer to the problems of site, structure, function and facade. |
