Cable is one of the most important mediators for transmitting energy and message in household appliances, electronic products, shipbuilding, aerospace and other products, and the performance of the product is affected directly by cable assembly quality. As a brand-new cable assembly process planning method, virtual cable assembly technology can solve many problems of traditional cable assembly effectively, such as long production, poor reliability, high cost and so on. Virtual cable assembly technology provides a visualization and lifelike virtual reality platform to operators, so cable assembly process planning can be made by the operators fast and accurately. As a precondition for virtual cable assembly technology, simulation of cable has been widely used, and received more attention. Simulation study on cable has become a research topic of many people.Firstly, this paper introduced the background of the research, then introduced the research status of virtual assembly technology and virtual cable modeling. And then, this paper simply introduced three current mainstream cable modeling algorithms, and summarized these. After comparing the three cable modeling algorithms, this paper chose the mass-spring method as the algorithm of cable modeling. Then this paper introduced the method to establish the cable of the mathematical derivation, then introduced the advantages of the method assured in the mathematical derivation.Finally, this paper took OpenSceneGraph(OSG) as the development database to realize the cable simulation. This paper detailed the background of the rotation minimizing frame and the method to solve the problem of this method. This paper used mass-spring method to establish the location curve of cable, took this curve as spine curve,used rotation minimizing frame method to build the smooth surface of cable, and obtained the final cable simulation results. Compared this results and the cable simulation results in references, the comparison results showed that, the simulation results can achieve good reality, and can realize the dynamic operation of cable.At the end, the simulation of cable was analyzed, the future research was prospected.
