Due to its flammability, the traditional polymer materials often increase the environmental hazards in case of fire. The polymer nanocomposites have good flame retardancy, the combustion products of which have low toxicity and corrosion. The flame retardant properties of the polymeric nanocomposites are researched through the theoretical analysis and experiments. Otherwise, the application of the polymer nanocomposites is analyzed from the aspect of fire control work and the using suggestions in various places are put forward reasonably. The main conclusions are as follows:1) The combustion performance of the polymer materials and the toxicity of combustion products are analyzed. The causing disaster factors of the polymer materials are summarized. Six polymer materials in daily life are selected as the experimental objects. The cone calorimeter is used to simulate the combustion behavior. The combustion performance and the flame-retardant effect of different polymer materials are contrasted and the fire hazard is analyzed, which expounds the necessity of the fire retardant treatment of the polymer materials.2) The flame-retardant mechanism and flame-retardant effect of polymer nanocomposites are studied. Three groups of experimental materials( PP/MMT, PS/MMT and EVA/MMT) with different contents of filling agents are prepared by the new melt intercalation method. The radiation gasification device is used to test the flame retardance of the materials. The flame-retardant effect of the polymer nanocomposites is researched and the flame retardance of the polymer nanocomposites is evaluated. Furthermore, the defects of the polymer nanocomposites are pointed out.3) The typical cases in the crowded places, residential buildings and industrial buildings are analyzed. The reasonable suggestions of the application of the polymer nanocomposites are put forward through the comparison of the applicability evaluation of the polymer nanocomposites in different sites.The research is combined tightly with the practical application. The combustion behavior and the flame retardant effect of polymer nanocomposites are analyzed by the professional experimental device, which provides the theoretical and technical support necessarily for the application of the polymer nanocomposites in the future.
