Research On The Urban Renewal Strategy Based On The Concept Of Structural Protection In The District Of Shaocheng

In the late 1990 s, China has entered a period of fast growth of urbanization under the wave of reform and opening-up and made a great achievements in the field of city construction. It helps the new city-dwellers with the most basic housing problem and also finds an innovative new urbanization road according to the special situation of China. But in the meantime, we should note that there are still some problems with the existing city construction and its update mode.The district of Shaocheng, which is an old urban area and located in the center of Chengdu, has grown up with the city for more than two thousand years. It carries too much historical styles and has made a great contribution to the city construction process. To solve the housing problem, there had a lot of fast food style construction after the founding of PRC, which has now became the old red brick buildings from modern apartment at that time. Which caused Declining population and even recession in some old districts like the district of Shaocheng is the old style, high density, immature physical infrastructure etc. It is impractical to revamp all these places because of the economic, social, historical and other factors. How to rejuvenate the city is an issue to be studied further. How to resolve the contradiction between the protection of the historical and cultural relics and the development and improvement of the old city?Structural concept is to be introduced in this paper. With the definition schema of structure in sociology and economics, this paper will expand the narrow original design into board, also the studying on the structure of geometric aesthetics into internal factors and relationships. We will search for the city’s protection mode of inner structural elements from the stand point of systematic view, values, development view. The protection strategies under structural protection concept don’t conflict with the city and help its problems with a developmental vision, but it still has limits and doesn’t apply for all updates of the old district.In this study, according to the special historical and geographical situation of the district of Shaocheng and searching for its street system, building texture and social culture, structural protection concept will be used in its updating. Planning, policy and humanity will be the most important aspects to grope for the city’s protection strategies of updating, commanding and controlling all kinds of the city’s updated activities, to achieve the new district of Shaocheng’s integrity of street system, pattern of building texture and diversity of social culture.
