After production line system was successfully applied to auto manufacturing by Ford Company at the beginning of the 20th century, it was widely applied to many industries in the world. Production line system can satisfy the demands of large-scale production, so it keeps cost down and promotes the social development. It is the embodiment of specialization and standardization that every single of workers repeats a little of process. In 1990s, cell-production system emerged as a branch of lean-production system. Recently, to adapt the trend of multi-specification small batch manufacturing, cell-production has been applied to some company, such as Canon. But, it is not popular so far. It is believed that it can be used to improve efficiency for some enterprises.First, this thesis introduces some domestic and foreign scholars’research interests and findings on cell-production system, and the origin and development of cell-production system. Then, it makes comparisons between flow line production and cell production.Second, growing demand for multi-specification small batch manufacturing has been found by analyzing the recent order. But, the current form of production is not adaptive to this demand, because it leads to some problems, such as a lot of space requirement by applying production lines, high work in process (WIP), process discontinuity and long production cycle. It is believed that cell production can properly solve those problems.Third, cell production plan is designed. It concludes two parts:the internal layout of every cell and the global layout of all cells. Then, the thesis goes into the search of cell production practice, including organizational setting, training and motivation systems.Finally, evaluation system for cell-production is built basic principle of QFD. This evaluation system is used to compare production mode, choose one to maximize the benefit and help the manager enhance and improve sustained productivity.
