Along with the continuous development of science and technology, gas flow measurement is more and more important in industrial production. The gas flowmeter occupies a large proportion in process industry instruments which detect and control temperature, pressure, flow, level as well as composition. Currently the generally used gas flowmeter are traditional industrial flowmeter and new flowmeter has not been widely used yet. Therefore, with the technology of ion migration, this paper focuses on the ion migration gas flowmeter study and build up a novel gas flowmeter system based on ion migration. The paper illustrates the feasibility of the principle by using SIMION software to simulate ion migration and designs the mechanical structure of the flowmeter. The related mechanical design and installation are also involved. The paper analyzes the overall hardware composition of the system and focuses on the model selection, design and development. The paper also includes system software design and process analysis of various functional modules. It first puts forward the idea of using the android remote client to remote monitor the flowmeter. On the basis of the above, a new type of gas flowmeter prototype has been designed and some preliminary conclusions have been reached by functional tests. The feasibility of the ion migration gas flowmeter has thus been proved. This paper puts forward an innovative ion migration gas flowmeter with a principle differing from any existing flowmeters, and provides a new principle and developing direction for gas flowmeter in the future.The main content and innovations of the paper are as follows:1. This paper introduces the principles of ion migration gas flowmeter and uses SIMION to simulate. The results show that gas affects ion movement and leads to a time lag, which indicates the feasibility ion migration gas meter. Meanwhile, the paper explains the mechanical design of the flowmeter and specifies the installation, insulation and other issues.2. This paper summarizes the general hardware structure of the ion migration gas flowmeter. The vacuum ultraviolet lamp is used as ion source to implement ionization of organics; ion network structure to implement the ion gate function; high precision operation amplifier to detect and amplify the small current signal discharged by Faraday’s disc; TDC chip to measure the time lag between two signals; wireless WIFI conversion module to implement the remount communication between flowmeter and the android client so as to achieve remote monitoring function.3. The paper designs the software structure of ion migration gas flowmeter and elaborates the realization of high voltage power supply control software, the realization of serial communication based on state machine, TDC time measurement process and for the first time expounds the design of the android remote monitor client.4. This paper managed to develop the ion migration gas flowmeter research prototype and carry out performance tests. The paper gets the relationship between timg lag and gas flow rate, explores the function of the gas type classification. The results show that ion migration gas flowmeter can measure gas flow rate and identify different types of gas.
