The water resources in our country are very scant and distribute unevenly. So the function of the water diversion project is becoming more and more important in the national economic development. Canal buildings have played a decisive role and its structural quality also affected the overall benefits of the whole project. As a new type of structure, frame bridge has a high utilization rate. It can not only bear the transport function but also be used as a water channel. It is widely used in highway, railway and water conservancy projects because of its characteristics of good structural integrity and strong ability to resist deformation. Its safe operation will affect the global success seriously.In this paper, research background of canal building at home and abroad, the constitutive equation of concrete material, some relevant questions of finite element modeling and structure reinforcement scheme were recommended and a calculation for an actual composite frame bridge was made by using finite element program ANSYS. An integral modeling of the structure was established by using beam elements in analysis and calculation was taken in 9 conditions of serviceability limit state and bearing capacity limit state respectively. The values of internal force under the most unfavorable conditions was calculated to get the required standard of reinforcement.Then an analysis was do between the calculated results and actual reinforcement. the safety status of every site was got. The results showed that bearing capacity of the lateral structure of top and bottom plates and side hole side wall satisfied the design requirements, the other parts that were not satisfied should be reinforced. Finally, according to calculation results and the real state of the project, the structure was reinforced by the way of increasing cross-sectional area through adding top bracing beam. Then the strengthened structure was checked and the result could meet the relevant requirements of the bearing capacity. Through the analysis of internal force on the structure before and after reinforcement, which could provide reference for the calculation of similar engineering structure.
