The research of vehicle transmission has focused on applyingelectromechanical clutch system in order to obtain fast response andaccurate control. The wedge has been widely used to design brakingsystem and clutch system in vehicle. The normal force of clutch appliedby wedge mechanism is most important in the research of wedge clutch, because it can be used to control the whole transmission process of thevehicle. However, most of the researchers have used force sensors tomeasure the force instead of using state observation in the research ofwedge clutch. The force sensors will occupy much place of the clutch andtake more cost. What’s more, sensors have much delay and are always notso accurate. Kalman Filter is introduced to estimate the normal force ofthe wedge clutch system, reducing the impact of process noise andmeasurement noise at the same time. Compared with force sensors, Kalman filter responses faster and has better accuracy. Besides, Kalmanfilter doesn’t need extra space, which makes great sense for theapplication of wedge clutch in the research of vehicle transmissions.
