The use of power electronic devices brings convenience to theapplication of power energy, along with harmonics into the grid, and thehazard is increasingly serious. Many harmonic compensation methods, including active compensation and passive compensation, have beenproposed to improve the power quality and performance of electricalequipments. As a compensation device, Power Factor Corrector based onactive power filter has drawn more and more attention because of itsdynamic, efficient compensation performance. In this paper, a single-phase rectifier circuit with a shunt active powerfactor corrector on DC side is taken as the research target. The research ismainly about the operating characteristics, connection topology and controlstrategy of the active power factor correction system. Based on thecomparison of classic circuit topologies, a new active power factorcorrection topology is proposed considering the practicality and economy ofthe system. Also its small-signal model is established. Then the control loopis designed, including the double-loop control theme. A simulation of themain circuit and control circuit has been taken on the Matlab/Simulinkplatform.Based on the simulation result, a single-phase power factor corrector isimplemented both by hardware and software, and a dsPIC33F family microprocessor is used to complete digital control. The experiment showsthat this new topology can not only achieve high power factor and lowcurrent harmonic contents, while broadening the scope of the rectifier, butalso make the system cheaper and the control scheme more convenient.
