The contradiction between increasing energy demand and limitedresource makes the development of renewable energy as the main way forhuman’s future. As an environment-friendly and sustainable energy, windenergy has a lot of merits as follows: its various sources (land, sea, highor low-speed zone),multiple forms of usage (a large fan, small fans,off-grid or on-grid), low cost, high security, high developing potential andetc. Due to the merits mentioned above, wind power generation has madea great development in recent years both in the scale and the level ofdevelopment, which has become the world’s fastest growing renewableenergy.As the capacity of a single unit increases greatly, the traditionalhorizontal axis wind turbine brings a lot of great challenges. First,because of the great size and weight of the traditional horizontal axiswind turbine, it makes great difficulties to its manufacturing,transportation, lifting and maintaining, and it also makes the axis to bearthe enormous leaves hanging pressure from the wind leaf blade and the risk of fan resonance; Secondly, the transmission system and powermotor are installed so high that it’s not good for making a balance andincreases the need to balance the weight; Thirdly, due to a lack ofprotection measures, especiallly at the sea and desert areas where fiercewind often blows, the horizontal axis wind turbine can be easily damagedand its maintenance cost increases. At last, horizontal axis wind turbine isalso facing the problems of low speed and single wind surface, limitedapplication of geographic environment and so on.However, the wind-collector vertical axis wind power turbine canovercome the above drawbacks and the low efficiency of traditionalvertical axis. In the case of the same capacity, it can reduce the size of thewind power machine. Turbines can be stacked for high-power generation.At the same time, both transmission and motor units are placed at thebottom of the turbine which reduces the pressure from the blades and alsomakes it convenient for making balance and maintaining,. The windcollector on the one hand can be adjusted the air volume to maintainspeed and stability, on the other hand it has protective effects for the windblades. For the above advantages of the vertical axis wind power turbine,it is necessary to develop new vertical axis wind power technology.The vertical axis wind power system consists of wind collectorturbines, PLC hydraulic control system, transmission system,dual-winding induction motor, DSP control system, soft cut-in system, PC monitor software and etc. The system uses DSP as its core processorand ports the real-time multitasking system on it.It will sample,processand control important parameters including the wind conditions, networkparameters, the generator operating parameters and etc.The windcollector will help to keep the wind stable. The dual-winding motor withvector control method will improve the stability of the motor outputvoltage.The soft cut-in system will promote a smooth transition of currentwhen synchronize grid. The forewarning indicator system will helpdetecting some faults and making alarms for emergency braking action.All field data will be sent to the PC software. All of the designs above canassure an effecient, stable wind power system.
