Currently, the studies on the performance of locally loaded concrete-filled steel tubular(CFST) members have been carried out by several researchers, and the achievements have alsobeen published. However, the previous studies mainly focus on stub columns, and the suitabilityof the suggested formulae also needs to be verified. This paper experimentally and theoretically studies the performances of slender CFSTcolumns under local compression, and the main works are as following:(1) Seventeen circular, Twenty-one square and thirty-five rectangular slender CFSTspecimens under local compression were tested, and the effects of the local compression arearatio, load eccentricity ratio, endplate thickness, length-to-diameter (width) ratio anddepth-to-breadth ratio of rectangular section on the behaviours of locally loaded slender CFSTspecimens were investigated.(2) Using the theoretical model based on the software ABAQUS, the failure models and theload versus deformation relations of slender CFST columns under local compression weremodeled, and generally the predicted results agreed well with the tested results.(3) Based on the theoretical model verified by the test results, the effects of main parameterson the performance of slender CFST columns under local compression were studied, and themechanism under loading were also investigated.(4) The influences of main parameters on strength index of slender CFST columns underlocal compression were systemically investigated, and based on the parametric analysis results, the simplified formulae for predicting the bearing capacity of circular, square and rectangularslender CFST columns subjected to axially and eccentrically local compression were putforward.
