With the rapid development of modern industry, pipeline applications are usedacross almost all aspects of production, so the pipeline inspection and maintenancebecomes increasingly important to ensure the safe use of pipelines. Aiming at thequestion of scale, most enterprises at home and abroad use artificial periodic inspection.This method is inefficient and high cost, and directly affects the production life.Ultrasonic thickness testing technology is an important part of the project.Completing the measurement effectively and quickly is important to ensure productionquality, efficiency and safety. Domestic and foreign use eddy current, laser rays and othermethods to measure. When these methods are used in actual, many problems need to beresolved and the application range is small. It is a very important significance researchinga simple, efficient, on-line measurement for industrial projects.For the pipeline detection problem, it is necessary to accurately measure theultrasonic wave propagation time through different dielectric layers, and dielectric layerspropagation time difference between the layers through the pipe externally mountedpipeline inspection equipment to achieve the detection of the internal situation. It willmeet the requirements of production and life indicators.Firstly, it describes the relevant background and thickness measurement technologydevelopment status domestic and foreign. Several commonly detection methods currentlyadvantages and disadvantages are analyzed and studied.Secondly, it describes ultrasonic thickness measurement principle and the basictheory. Through researching the physical properties and propagation characteristics ofultrasonic, it proposed the method that using ultrasound measures the pipe inner dielectriclayer thickness, and designed to measure the experimental program.Finally, it describes the actual process of experimental verification experimentalprogram. Using the existing equipment conducted simulation experiment. By calculating,the experimental feasibility and reliability is verified.
