Consult the development history and current situation of the high pier continuous rigidframe bridge abroad and at home, for its superiority the high pier continuous rigid framebridge has its place in the Bridge Family, it is widely applied in our country, especially in thewestern region. Thin-walled cross section is adopted mostly in the high pier continuousrigid-framed bridge, so its stability problem is very prominent. The stability of high pier isalso the key problem that cannot be ignored in the practical application. So it is verymeaningful to study the stability of high pier. This paper did a little research and analysisabout the rationality of high pier’s stiffness, the effective length factor of high piers and thestability of the high pier bridge on the engineering background of a multi span and high piercontinuous rigid frame bridge.First, this paper did some research on the rationality of high pier’s rigidity formanti-pushing rigidity of high pier, reasonable thickness of thin-walled high pier, reasonablewidth and the distance between the double thin-wall piers, the results show that high pierbridge with double limb thin-wall piers have perfect flexibility and enough bending stiffness,and reasonable width and the distance between the double thin-wall piers can reduce thebending moment of main girder,so as to lower the height of the beam, bridges appear moreslim and beautiful.Then, this thesis introduced the calculation the effective length factor of high piers fromstructure stability coefficient of high pier. Deflection differential equation should be used tosolve the effective length factor of high piers when the boundary conditions are non-standardcases. When study the stability of high pier continuous rigid frame bridge on two kinds ofinstability, the value of calculated length coefficient should be different。Finally, the paper did some research on stability of the three key stages which inconstruction to operation phase of high pier continuous rigid frame bridge. The results showthat the stability of high pier rigid frame bridge s decided for its own weight, and other loads,such as wind load, the construction load, accidental loading, vehicle load and temperatureload take a little impact on the stability of high pier rigid frame bridge.
