Currently, the relay setting is calculated in off-line mode using operation modecombination. The setting value may not meet the requirement of sensitivity andselectivity on the condition of special real-time mode. Therefore, effective methods areneeded to simulate protective behavior and cooperative relationship under system failurein order to verify the correctness of setting value. This thesis devotes to the key mattersin relay protection setting simulation, including research on relay protection theory, modeling method for setting simulation and the design of setting simulation system. This thesis studies the principles of relay protection, analyses the cooperativerelationship between protection and reclosing, presents the operation characteristic ofstepped protection, investigates influencing factors of protection setting performance.Setting simulation model is the basis to the realization of simulation system. AModel based on object-oriented Petri nets for protection simulation is carried out. In thismodel, the simulation system is divided into different objects to minish the system scale;strategies of information transmission between objects are defined to describe thecooperative relationship of protection setting values and setting time. This model iseffective in describing the action of protection under fault circumstance.Based on the above research, the main function and the structure of settingsimulation system is introduced, the key technology in the system development processis discussed, and the simulation system is developed based on VB.NET technology. Thesystem is user-friendly, practicable and meets the requirement of relay protection settingverification.
