A Study On Beihai Qi-Lou Historic District Under The Experience Economy

After Beihai has been approved as the national historic city, theconservation and renewal of the Beihai Qilou historic conservation area isgetting unprecedented concern and impact. On one hand, the increasingnumber of tourists leads to not only the boom of commercial and touristactivities but also some limitations that some sections of the conservation areaare excessively commercialized and can only offer tourists relativelymonotonous experiences. On the other hand, the shortage of conservation fundmakes the infrastructure construction of this area be lagged behind, someQilou buildings have not been repaired for many years and fallen into decay,more indigenous residents are moving out which made a severe influence onthe primary living condition. Therefore, under the current social developmentcircumstances, it would be very practical significant to introduce theeconomic angle, take advantage of economic value rapid increase attached onproducts or consuming behavior and then fulfill more added value, based onconservation of the Qilou historic conservation area.Firstly, this thesis reviews the historical development and the currentcomplex problems of the Beihai Qilou historic conservation area, assesses titshistoric and cultural value and feature and points out that fund shortageconstitutes the basic problem. Depending only on marketization operation toacquire fund would place the area conservation into a dilemma. Secondly,according to analysis of conservation and renewal theories, development trendof practices and connotation of experience economy, the author concludes thatthe correlation of experience economy and the Qilou historic conservationarea endows the conservation and renewal with both internal and externalimpetus, which can help us to figure out the factor covering tangible andintangible culture corresponding to the experience needs of multivariant individuals and provide references for the conservation and renewal work ofthis area.Finally, based on the previous analysis, the thesis summarizes sevenpoints which should be paid great attention to with regard to the Qilouconservation and renewal model from the perspective of experience economywhich are, core idea, implementation model, protective principle,conservation mode, repair methods of historic building, inheritancemechanism of folk culture and operational guideline. Besides, it proposes theoptimized direction of implementation mode, planning content, policymechanism and operational guideline in the current conservation and renewalstrategy for the Beihai Qilou historic conservation area.On conclusion of this thesis, due to the complexity conservation andrenewal of historic conservation area, it cannot solve the complexcontradictory issues only by planning or architectural design. It mustintroduce social, economic, cultural and legal views and multidimensionalresearch approach to seek for relevant solutions, which will also contribute tothe sustainable development of historic conservation area.
