We often see such a scene in our lives: Older people are often unable to eat dueto the hand-shake accurately; Hand-grip powerless people were turned away becausethe door can not be opened; Single arm people would become dejected because theycan not open bottles. As the number of elderly and physically disabled population isgrowing, hand disorders in populations are increasing year by year. Unlikesignificantly lower limb disorders, hand disorders are often overlooked because oftheir own the public’s obvious sexual characteristics. It also indirectly confirms whyassistive devices in recent years has made great achievements in development though, but the hand of assistive devices has developed slowly, and the hand of assistivedevices on the market are also few.The main function of assistive devices is to improve disorders’ physical function, increasing autonomy of their lives. It happens to coincide with the barrier-free design. This paper mainly focus on the barrier-free design research of hand-disorders livingassistive devices. I hope to provide theoretical guidance for future reference and handassistive devices design, promoting the development of hand-disorders assistivedevices, and providing a better living environment for the hand disorders. This paper tried to use the barrier-free design theory as the basic theory andcombine with the principles of barrier-free design to discuss the relationship betweenthe barrier-free design and hand-disorders living assistive devices, analysis thephysical, psychological and emotional needs of hand disorders, and propose barrier-free design principles applicable to the design of the hand-disorders living assistivedevices. The paper was divided into three parts. The first part included Chapters I andII, and we mainly discussed the significance of barrier-free design of assistivedevices. The second part included Chapter III, Chapters IV and V. It introduced thedefinition, category and current situation of hand assistive devices, and it alsoanalyzed the physical, psychological and emotional needs of the hand disorders. Inaddition, this part also analyzed the barrier-free design of the hand-disorders livingand proposed barrier-free design principles of the hand-disorders assistive devices. The sixth chapter was the third part of this paper. It put into practice theprinciples of barrier-free design of the hand-disorders assistive devices, and tablewarewas used as an example. It also proved the feasibility of barrier-free design of thehand-disorders assistive devices.
