Design And Optimization For The Cam Mechanism Of The Cam Drive Engines

In this paper, a novel engine called cam drive engine is studied. The working principlesare analyzed, and the structure is designed. The cam drive engine have unique features overthe conventional engines, among which the cam drive is the most prominent one. Moreover,the use of cam drive facilitates having a separate compression ratio and expansion ratio. As aninnovation of replacing the conventional crankshaft-connecting rod mechanism, the camengine is believed to have major advantages of higher power, better fuel economy, smootheroperation, higher reliability, and lighter weight. The cylindrical cam is a core part in the camdrive engineer and the design of the cam profiles affect the overall engine performance, so thedesign and the profile optimization for the cam is researched in this paper. Two types of curverepresentations, polynomial spline and sinusoid, are constructed in can profile synthesis, andtheir general equations are derived respectively. By the means of MATLAB, the method of themultiobjective optimization is adopted to comprehensively study the cam profile optimizationproblem. A series of combinations of the cam profile representations are compared toillustrate the applicability of the representations used in this paper. By comparison with theresults, it is found that the curve representations for cam developed in this paper aresignificant better than the representations used generally. The polar method is used to developthe relations between the theoretical and the practical cure representations. Finally, the3Dmodel for the cam engineer is established, and the assembly of the massage ware andkinematical analysis is also carried out.
