The engine sealing has been a difficult problem to the development of the engine. Thelife and further improvement of the engine are related to the sealing reliability of the engine.Gasket Seals are widely used in the engine. At present, the design of the connections withmetallic gaskets is based on the gasket factors m and the liner sealing stress y, wherethese two parameters mainly reflect the strength of the connection structure, but cannotaccurately reflect the sealing reliability of the gasket seal connection system. The failure ofsealing systems is mainly caused not by the strength but by the leakage of the connections. In this paper, according to the fractal geometry theory, we studied the contactconditions of the surface between the metallic gasket seals based on the metal gasketsealing surface topography. The main contents are as follows:Finite element method is adopted to analyze the banjo union used in engine. Thedistribution of the contact stress of metallic gaskets was investigated. According to thedeformation characteristics of the metal gasket and the structure characteristics of the banjounion, we optimized the metal gasket cross section shape to improve the sealing reliabilityof the banjo union.According to the fractal theory, a study on the contact model of metallic gaskets wascarried out. The contact model of sealing surfaces of the metallic gasket was established onthe basis of the modified M-B model, and the relationship between the contact area and thecompressive stress was obtained.Based on the contact model and related percolation mechanics theory, the leakagemodel of metallic gaskets was established on the basis of the fractal percolation theory.
