At present, the rapid development of urban construction has resulted the shortage of theurban land resources. How to use the urban land resources efficiently has become a priority inurban development. In2008, the State Council of China issued the notice on the promotion ofeconomical and intensive land use, which encouraged the development and utilization ofunderground space. Local government of Guangdong in2009implemented this notice in2009.Relative guidelines were issued to help efficient development of the land. The development of the economy and the urbanization process in China was accompaniedwith the surge in demand for urban transport. The issues of traffic congestion, obstruction havebecome a common problem in large cities. Because that the traditional road transport can notmeet the growing population travel requirements, many cities have already developed urban railtransit as a solution to traffic problems.Traditional urban rail transit depot requires large area, small building density, and low landuse intensity. The car depot itself and the surrounding land use is not developed sufficiently. Theintensive development of land along the metro system could help improving the efficiency of landdevelopment and secure money to allow the government to subsidize the metro system. Moreover, the land development based on the metro system will make the people flow more smoothly andreasonably. The comprehensive development of car depot in metro system is in line with the nationalpolicy. It will also bring huge economic benefit, reduce the carbon dioxide emission and thuscontribute to the happiness of people. The comprehensive development of car depot in mainland China is still in its infancy. However, experiences could be borrowed from Hong Kong Special Administration Region,China as they have already employed this work in their metro system. In recent years, after HongKong, many cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou have already attempted todevelop the land above the car depot. This thesis describes the investigation on the land development above a car depot ofGuangzhou Metro Line6. The related policies, regulations and guidelines were introduced. Theprocess of the land development is introduced in details. This thesis will provide valuableinformation for similar project in the future.
