Quality Data Analysis&Research For FPSO Conversion

With high technology, additional value and brightest application prospect, FPSO hasbecome one of the most important facilities in ocean oil and gas development. In the coming5years (2015-2019), annual FPSO order is estimated to be20to30. Compared with newlybuilt FPSO, conversion of VLCC into FPSO enjoys advantage of shorter period and lowercost. Many offshore companies, such as SBM, take conversion as a priority choice to get anFPSO at the soonest manner. As an FPSO to serve in ocean, a special environment, vessel’sstructure and production equipment and facilities must be ensured to work properly withoutany repair or maintenance at berth or in dry-dock for next2decades. So all applicablestandards and requirements including related laws and regulations, class standard and ownersspecifications, should be qualified regarding both engineering and construction quality.This thesis is based on the3FPSO Conversion Projects carried out during2011to2014in Chengxi Shipyard (Guangzhou) Co. Ltd., one of the most famous shipyards in South China.According to original quality data collecting in full-time participation in project qualityplanning, assurance and control, calculation and analysis based on8quality data (NonConformance Report, Corrective Action Report, Observation Report,1st internal inspectionacceptance rate,1st external inspection acceptance rate, NDT loss rate, suppliers evaluationrecord and as-build dossiers) with7basic tools of quality and Minitab software,outstanding quality improvement request and over-quality items are identified. On the otherhand, root cause for these problems can be found, set up corrective actions plan andpreventive actions plan and verify these actions on site.
