Earthquake is a devastating natural disaster, it will cause significant casualties andproperty losses. At present, China’s earthquake is still very active and the rapiddevelopment of urban population growth, the extensive population and economy makesthe earthquake disaster and threats to the safety of human life is grown bigger. As thedisaster finished, there must be a safe place.Although China has widely distributed as a number of stadiums, exhibition centerfor disaster prevention and evacuation sites, but the buildings at the initial stage of designand construction as there is no design concept into the refuge, easily exposed manyproblems and shortcomings in the disaster really comes, causing evacuation disorder thelow efficiency of refuge, refuge and quality, and even some shelter can not put intopractical use. Therefore, exploring the stadiums and other shelters for refuge function ofthe specific needs of design strategy, is shelters to guarantee effective, efficient play itsshelter function, but also comprehensive necessary way to use of social resources.A school gymnasium as an example, the seismic performance of the stadium withthe "test design specification" disaster shelter requirements. Analysis of the originalbuilding to shelter design requirements in terms of lateral stiffness and bearing capacitydeficiencies, in constant calculation is proposed on the basis of the two kinds ofreinforcement scheme, a directly in the periphery additional support steel columns,another is the damping viscous damper, and the two schemes respectively by SATWE,SAP2000and EPDA for the bearing capacity and lateral under frequent earthquake andrare earthquake shift calculation, static push-over el as to plastic analysis and dynamicelastic plastic time history analysis, confirmed the steel support or damper can effectivelyplay the first seismic defense line function, suitable for higher requirements on seismicrefuge building.
