The landing typhoon frequency in China and its influence have been increasingyear by year. While the wind-induced damages or collapses of low-rise residentialbuildings distributed in China’s coastal village areas and the casualties caused by thecollapses are causing huge losses. Wind disaster investigation showed that thedestroy forms of low-rise buildings are basically the roof structures’ failure, especially the failures of the local areas such as the windward edge, corner and ridgeareas on roof. Therefore, researches on the wind pressure characteristics ofwindward roof local areas on low-rise buildings in coastal typhoon-prone areas ofChina have an important significance.Firstly, a numerical study on wind pressures of a gable-roofed (4.8°roof pitch)low-rise building with a1.5:1:1body type was performed based on Reynolds N-Sequations. Compared with wind tunnel test data, the results obtained from thesimulation match well, the numerical simulation based on Reynolds can accuratelypredict wind pressures on low–rise buildings. Then, the influencing factors on localwind pressures on damageable roof of low-rise buildings were studyed.(1) For single gable-roofed low-rise building, rgard the main buildingparameters such as roof pitch, eave height as variables, investigate the effects ofthese parameters on wind pressure on the windward local areas of low-rise buildings, the measuring point peak pressures under unfavorable conditions are obtained;(2) Numerical studies for the same two low-rise buildings were performed inorder to study the influence of mutual interference between two low-rise buildingson surface pressures, the interference effects which represented by IF on shapecoefficients of the interfered building were analyzed with different arrangements andpositions of the interfering building and the reasonable arrangements for theinterfered building are proposed;(3) For the low-rise building with wall openings, the effect of opening factorson local wind pressures was intensively discussed considering single opening ratio, single opening position and two-sided opening, the internal wind pressures variationcaused by opengings was summarized.
