Viscoelastic polymeric damping materials were firstly made in Germany in1950s, and they have attracted attention in recent years because of their versatility and wide spectrum of properties.Recently, People are now getting more and more interested in high performance damping materials made form polymer/organic molecule blend material. This was regarded as created a new method and concept of excellent damping material. This material can be produced by adding hindered phenol or hindered amide into the polymer matrix which contain proper polar groups. It is supposed to generate some weak hydroxyl bonds inside the polymer matrix using certain process. Because this is a kind of weak chemical bond, so the vibration can destroy the hydroxyl bond and it can form itself again. During this process, the energy can be transformed and disappeared. This can explain why this kind of damping material could obtain high damping value.Nowadays, according to the literature information, this kind of damping material is mostly used in rubber systems. Rubber and small organic molecule were put together and kneaded using double rollers. After carefully reading literature and former work, this thesis put forward a new system to produce this kind of damping material. Polyurethane is used as polar polymer matrix and PU/hindered phenol damping materials are prepared. We successfully increase the damping value from1.1to2.3. In this paper, the polyurethane oligomer prepare method was discussed. Also, how the soft and hard segment of polyurethane influence the final result was discussed too. It is proved that the hard segment of PU mainly influence tan delta and the soft segment mainly influence tg. Besides, IPN technology was also used to broaden the temperature range of tan delta.Vulcanized polar rubber contained hindered phenol was also studied and has obtained some regular results. Vulcanization was used to increase the tensile strength.
