Ball bearings are important foundation piece in machinery and equipment, whichcan be usually used in numerous neighborhood (such as automotive, military, aerospace,etc.), while balls are key parts of ball bearings. High quality ball bearings should havelow vibration, long service life, high reliability and other properties. These can beachieved only when all components of ball bearings (outer ring, inner ring, cage androlling elements) have high processing precision, and the impact of balls is the mostprominent one. With the rapid development of the bearing industry, the accuracyrequirement of balls is gradually improved. Grinding is the final step in the processingof balls, which directly determines the final quality and accuracy of the balls surface.This paper is mainly to study on the mechanism of precision grinding balls and ballstechnology from aspects of abrasive wear, cutting tracks, mechanical model, motion law,dynamic analysis, optimization, etc.Based on the analysis of grinding balls mechanism, grinding characteristics ofthree phases are compared, respectively. In order that the grinding quality can beimproved when discs grind steel balls surface, the paper analyzes the trajectory of stellballs surface which is cut by abrasive, and obtains the overlapping method of cut pits. Aremoval model of grinding mechanical can be established by the forces betweenabrasive particles and steel balls. The equation of motion of three contact points areestablished when the paper has a in-depth study on movement, which reveals the motionlaw of steel balls. In order that balls don’t slip or collide when rotary disc drives them torotate, the dynamic analysis is used considering from two groove surfaces, respectively.Finally, the paper gives the power calculation formulas of grinding balls and impactparameters are determined, which can provide a theoretical reference for reducing theeconomic cost.In a word, this paper can improve the accuracy and efficiency of grinding balls,and lays a good foundation for saving costs, reducing noise of ball bearings, increasingof service life, enhancing reliability, and so on.
