Urban Sustainable storm water management has become the mainstream of urbansustainable development. Due to urbanization and global climate change, a lot ofcountries and regions are facing the problem of water shortage, serious water pollutionand degeneration of water environment. However, the idea that stormwater being one ofthe available resources to use has been the broad consensus around the world, manycountries committed to the research and development of stormwater collection andreuse, and obtained mature experiences. Among those, Australian Water Sensitive UrbanDesign (WSUD) does not only help alleviating the pressure of urban water and waterpollution, but also maintaining the ecological balance of urban water. The mostimportant is that WSUD combines stormwater management and urban designsystematically. WSUD is an emerging interdisciplinary major (relating to themanagement of water resources, hydrology and water conservancy engineering,hydrology and ecology, landscape design, urban planning, environmental science andother disciplines)[1], will be great contribution to the sustainable development of the city.Sustainable stormwater management are relatively late in China. In the1980sBeijing started the researches of the runoff pollution, then other big cities such asGuangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai also started the researches. As urban water problemhas become increasingly serious, a lot of cities and regions are facing the problem ofurban water. In addition, heavy storms often happen again and again, many cities appearthe scene of "sea" after the storms. This has brought great inconvenience to daily life,threatened the personal property security, and seriously affected the economicdevelopment. While Australia WSUD, being a successful example, it is worthy forChina to learn and refer to. But the related research in China mainly focus on part ofWSUD, lacking clear structure and comprehensive understanding. As we learn fromAustralia WSUD, it is necessary to research deeply on the whole content of it. Thispaper will put forward the application of WSUD under China’s conditions.The research object is WSUD of Australia and its application in China. Based onthe summary and analysis of the Australian WSUD, it is concluded that the applicationsof WSUD in China under the domestic situation. The content is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction. It puts forward the research background, content, methods and paper framework.The second part is the basic concept. It summarizes and analyzes the origin anddevelopment of WSUD, connotation, basic principles and objectives.The third part is the plan formulation. It summarizes and combs the WSUD planformulation process. Moreover, the WSUD goals determine, best planning practice, bestmanagement practices, scheme evaluation are summarized and analyzed respectively.The fourth part is the typical case. It makes analysis of WSUD classic cases.The fifth part for application of WSUD analysis and enlightenment. It puts forwardthe applications of WSUD in China.
