With the rapid development of China’s economy and the deepening of urbanization in recent years, the contradiction between scarce land resources and the rapid population growth is becoming more and more prominent. High-rise and small high-rise buildings have become the main real estate development project types, and their appearance provides a good solution to the problem. Compared with high-rise building, small high-rise building has more advantages such as lower volume rate, more comfortable living and so on, and this makes it widely favored by the market. In order to select the optimum structure scheme of the small high-rise building, it’s necessary to comparatively analyze the seismic performance and economic performance of different structure types to provide references for structure scheme selection. In this paper, an11-story small high-rise building prototype is studied. Its roof part is properly simplified, and only the standard layer is selected to establish the structure model. Different structure systems are used for calculating and analyzing to compare their seismic performance indicators and economic performance under seismic effect. In addition, thanks to its great effects on building plane function and its small lateral stiffness and poor seismic performance, pure frame structure will no longer be included in structure calculating and analyzing, and shear wall structure and frame shear wall structure will be focused on.In the paper, the following tasks are included based on the existing theoretical research results.1.Two structure system calculating models are established in PKPM structure design software based on building design rules. Unreasonable parts are adjusted to make the models meet the design needs according to the calculating results. Engineering quantity is counted to analyze its economic performance.2. Reasonable models are accordingly established in MIDAS/GEN element analysis software. Two models’modal analysis under frequent earthquake is carried out to achieve structure’s natural vibration period and structure deformation form in each vibration mode. Seismic response spectrum analysis is carried out to achieve structure’s story displacement, inter-story displacement, inter-story displacement ratio and other information under earthquake effect. Selecting two natural seismic waves and one artificial seismic wave, additional time history analysis under frequent earthquake is carried out to achieve the top node displacement time history response curves. The time history response results of story displacement, inter-story displacement and the bottom shear are also achieved. Through the analysis of the two structure systems’characteristics and the comparison of their seismic performance and economic performance, shear wall structure is suggested to be preferred in small high-rise structure systems in high fortification intensity area. This provides theoretical basis for selecting structure type in small high-rise building.
