Due to the impact of the natural environment and geographical conditions, we will inevitably occur high embankment when construct highway in western China especially in the loess region. High loess-filled embankment settlement deformation has been the problem that engineering and technical personnel and researchers pay close attention. Therefore, it is necessary to study the rule of settlement and observe settlement of high loess-filled. By analyzing the measured settlement data, we can sum the rules of settlement and predict settlement. In this paper, we concluded the rules of after-construction settlement of embankment, foundation and road surface through in-situ observation and analysis. After construction settlement of embankment is comprehensively decided by the degree of consolidation of soil filled in embankment and upper gravity loads. At the end of the construction period, the embankment settlement on the both sides is significantly greater than settlement in the center of embankment. The settlement of the foundation will be greater when filling higher, in the absence of special terrain conditions. Terrain is also the main factor of foundation settlement. Settlement of the road surface is not only related with the filling height, but also has a great relationship with the section in which the terrain. Excluding the impact of terrain conditions, the settlement of the road surface will be greater when filling higher.Through the study of embankment settlement calculation methods, we propose practical calculation method of high filled embankment settlement, including amendments of considering lateral deformation of embankment and calculation of creep deformation after construction. This paper introduces several traditional settlement prediction methods, and the method of gray system theory to predict embankment settlement. This paper also makes a number of recommendations during design phase and construction phase of high filled embankment.
