Rail transportation is an import part of public transportation system. Compared with other transportation ways, the energy consumption of rail transportation is huge. Thus, adopting energy-saving operation measures can decrease the operation cost under the precondition of ensuring transportation efficiency. The research of energy-saving manipulation of railway transportation has endured the development of many years. However, the energy-efficient solution algorithm is worth further study. In this paper, in view of the research achievements of domestic and oversea researchers, the energy-saving manipulation strategies are designed for the train operation between stations, which synthesize the knowledge of train traction calculation and the characteristic of locomotive traction and braking, and are based on the first and second judgments of train energy-saving manipulation. The genetic algorithm (GA) is designed to calculate the coasting points between stations under the timing constrains, which sufficiently considers the comfort requirements besides ensuring the train operation punctuality. In the genetic algorithm, all the coasting points are encoded into binary genes representing the starting and ending points of coasting. Each child generation is evolved from the selection, crossover, mutation of parent chromosomes, and inherited according to the fittest preservation strategy. In order to satisfy many constraints, the penalty functions are designed. In the simulation experiment, the actual train operation processes are simulated. The simulation experimental results are analyzed, and the configuration laws are concluded for the coasting times, based on which, the design of genetic algorithm is further optimized.
