With the rapid development of economy and growing demand for inland shipping, low standard waterway locks cannot meet the development of water transport. Therefore, building large cross-section waterway tunnels is a feasible solution to this bottleneck problem. Currently, studies on large cross-section waterway tunnels are still in the preliminary stage both at home and abroad, thus there is no reference standard available for the design and construction. On the other hand, the construction of such tunnels is extremely urgent, which makes the research on the waterway tunnel design and construction both significant and practical. Based on the project of "Fuchun River Qililong Waterway Tunnel", some key technologies have been studied in this thesis, and the main work and research results are put forward as follows.1. Optimization method and related analysis are used to optimize the tunnel clearance. The following facts have been taken into consideration, including the requirements of cross-sectional shape of the tunnel’s underwater part, the requirements of the construction boundaries of the tunnel’s above water part, the safety precautions of the tunnel, and the mechanical characteristics of rock and tunnel structures.2. According to the technical information and characteristics of Fuchun River waterway tunnel, along with the existing tunnel waterproof and drainage specification and experience, waterproofing and drainage of the tunnel from underwater to overwater have been designed.3. The engineering analogy method has been used to determine waterway tunnel support parameters, which are verified by the finite element numerical simulation and load calculation method. Furthermore, the secondary lining reinforcement crack has also been checked.4. Methods on excavation, advanced support, entrance construction, overbreak and underbreak control, reserved deformation and secondary lining construction have been studied in this thesis. In order to solve the problems and meet the needs in the process of waterway tunnel construction, some methods including material survy, theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, etc., are used to study waterway tunnel design and construction technology. The results may have important implications for understanding waterway tunnel, and provide valuable research data for engineering design and construction practice.
