Expressway service area is an important supporting facility to ensure its’ safety,unblocking, quickness. It is a tie between the road and people, occupying an importantposition in the expressway management system. The information service has a directinfluence on the timing and accuracy of the transferring and sharing of expresswayinformation. Only equipped with a sound platform for the information service can thedevelopment of expressway information service fully completed, by doing so we canimprove the traffic efficiency, improve the service quality and ensure our expressway isfast, comfortable and efficient.The article kicks off by mentioning the functional orientation of the expresswayservice area, through a series of investigation and analysis of the commercial andindustrial areas, transportation, logistics and tourist spots along the expressway, as wellas the analysis of the demand, content, range, and orientation of the service area, itproposed to build an expressway service information system based on cloud computing,including basic platform architecture design, database design, information collectionand dissemination methods selection and so on. Thus the drivers can get the access tothe platform for the information communication, which is also the information channelsfor commercial, industrial, transportation, tourism along the expressway.Secondly, the article also predicts the economic benefits once the informationplatform is established, including the direct and indirect benefits. The direct oneincludes: reducing operating costs, saving time, accelerating the flow of goods andreducing the accident rate and other terms. The more perfect the information servicearea become, the greater benefits it will bring.
