With its higher power potentials of EHV and UHV and its greater transmission capacity and longer transmission distance, China’s power grid is now being backboned by a1000kV AC and±800kV DC system. Meanwhile, a modern grid partition structure based on a hierarchical reliable AC and DC high voltage transmission and distribution network is being formed.In response to the need to develop a smarter grid, secure a real-time control of the power grid operation in Beijing area, establish a precaution system against any operation failure or imbalance of power transmission caused by exterior damage and accidents and break the bottleneck that hinders the development of Beijing’s grid, we designed a smart grid operation system which is more advanced, reliable, compatible and customized for local businesses.In this paper the author conducts a thorough analysis on the resources available and the way requirement is obtained and complete a feasibility report based on it. Then, the author provides an overall design of the system with some detailed and elaborate analysis and introduction to the design and realization of some specific functions.The smart grid operation system discussed in this paper has been put into use in Beijing Electric Power Corporation to provide guidance for production management, risk control, emergency management, operation monitor and assistance for decision making. This is the first time for such smart system to be used in national grid corporation.
