With the development of modern industry, nonlinear loads of high capacity as rectifier equipment, electric arc furnace and electric railways continue to increase. These loads are highly random and impulsive, and the instantaneous power shall reach several times or even ten times the rated power in their start-up phase, significantly affecting the stability of the power grid. Therefore, an accurate characterization of the impulsive load characteristics and building load model is necessary.Firstly, this thesis analyzes the merits and demerits of traditional methods of and their fitness, summarizes the various static and dynamic load model structures. Secondly, this thesis analyzes the composition of traction load, portrays the power curves based on the datas which are obtained when the locomotive passes traction power substation. Then, it proposes the impulsive load model of electrified railway Thirdly, it studies the production characteristics, technological process, impulsive load characteristics and the impact might be generated on the regional power grid of electric arc furnace, electrolytic aluminium and electrified railway. Lastly, it establishes the correct and accurate model of the impulsive load based on MATLAB and makes simulation analysis on the impact upon the regional power grid by impulsive load.
