One of the main problems due to wet snow, freezing rain, frost and other causes of transmission line icing, is a serious threat to the security of the power system. Transmission line icing, often lead to increased mechanical load of the line, causing line galloping, break, down the tower, the line insulator flashover accident, eventually leading to the scale blackouts, not only bring significant harm to people’s lives, and even restricted the national economic development. The traditional method of mechanical de-icing or direct ice melting technology have many restrictions in practice, difficult to handle, not easy to achieve. Therefore, the research for the characteristics of the transmission line icing and developing a more reliable and high-icing technology is significance to the safe operation of the power grid. The purpose of this paper is to research the mechanical properties and solve problems of transmission line icing,This paper is mainly developed from the following aspects.This paper described the hazards of transmission line icing and various research status of existing de-icing techniques, and studied the characteristics of the transmission line icing, icing formation mechanism, hazards and physical properties. Designed transmission line icing compressive strength tests to obtained the icing mechanical properties, to provide data for the ultrasonic transmission line deicing system. Then studied the ultrasonic wave propagation and the mechanism of action of ultrasound to transmission line icing. Create a physical model of ACSR icing using SolidWorks software, and using finite element analysis software ANSYS coupled to the model calculation. Get the missed stress nephogram and each node stress values of Icing transmission lines, And compare with the icing maximum compressive strength, Verify the theoretical feasibility of ultrasound transmission line deicing. On this basis, design the ultrasonic deicing system, elaborated the function of major part of the ultrasonic de-icing system. For the demand of transmission line deicing, designed ultrasonic horn which is the mainly devices of the Ultrasonic deicing system, and dynamic analysis of the horn. Verify the resonant frequency and amplification factor of the horn whether comply with the design needs of ultrasound transmission line de-icing system.
