Automatic identification system (AIS) is important aid to navigation for ships sailing at sea.In recent years, with the continuous development of AIS technology and the promotion andapplication of shipborne AIS, AIS has made a great contribution to navigation and trafficmanagement. However, the continuous improvement of ship speed and the increasing quantity ofships in the world, gives the development of AIS technology new challenges. Therefore,International Maritime Organization (IMO) has been actively promoting the use of AISApplication-Specific Messages (message6, message8). ASM can send messages with a varietyof functions by the flexibility of the content and structure of the binary message, not onlyexpanding the type and function of the message, but also increasing the amount of information ofAIS.In view of this, the display technology of AIS binary messages in this paper is to parse thebinary message and ultimately display them in Chinese. The main content of this researchincludes four aspects. First, it analyses and researches the operating principle of the AIS systemand, especially, the parsing process of AIS message, and describes the related knowledge of AISbinary messages. Second, it proposes the overall design idea about the display terminal of AISbinary messages in Chinese and its hardware and software, and has conducted functional designof the display terminal. Third, combining with identified design scheme of the display terminaland the" GUIDANCE ON THE USE OF AIS APPLICATION-SPECIFIC MESSAGES ", theterminal application program is coded. Fourth, it builds the analog operating environment of thedisplay terminal for debugging the terminal system and records the results.The results show that the display terminal of AIS binary messages has achieved the desiredresult and successfully realize the functions of displaying the terminal parsing and processing ofbinary messages in Chinese, etc.
