Practical Application Of Wall Greening In Construction

Abstract:Greening wall of the building has became one of the important means which can repair cracks between human beings and nature in cities. It can not only beautify the buildings and the cities, increase the greening rate, also improve the Regional Environmental, purified air and reduce the urban heat island effect. However, the application of greening wall in architecture is still in the beginning stages and there is a general narrow-mindedness of building greening in China, which regards wall greening as vines climbing the wall.The application of Greening wall in architecture is the object of study in this Topic. At the beginning, there are the comprehensive overview of the Greening wall of building, its definition and the analysis of its value and advantages. Then, we did the study of the Greening wall of building in China by classifying it into three main categories of Vines plants, container planting and Planting a blanket, and eight sub categories. This article describes the process of its development and the present status of its application at home and abroad. The article tell us what issues lie in our application and how to do against the issues.This article presents three application principles which are plant selection adaptability, Building matching and convenience of maintenance against the issues which lie in our application of greening wall in buildings. Based on the principles, it concludes the application characteristics of vines plants, container planting and planting a blanket by carrying on field research and expert interviews, looking up the information and using the cases of practical application at home and abroad as reference, which are summed up and sorted out in tables. The main characteristics are as follows:greening wall of vines plants is applied in multi-story residential building、industrial building and the old public building; greening wall of container planting is applied in multi-story public building and low-rise residential building; and greening wall of planting a blanket is applied in high-rise office building、 commercial building、high-end residential community and part of governmental public building which pursue a good landscape effect. This article provides a theoretical basis and a good reference value to the application of greening wall in architecture and can be considered as a reference for newly built projects of greening wall or the current building reconstructed projects through concluding the application characteristics of three types of greening wall in architecture for the purpose of facilitating the application and development of greening wall in architecture.
