The secondary arc current is a kind of current resulted by a common fault on the involved TCSC’s EHV. The secondary arc current has the lumped parameter model and the distributed parameter model. The paper expounded the FSC/TCSC inhibition to the secondary arc current from the perspective of theory and calculation. It deppely studied the mechanism of the current’s low frequency component on the series compensated lines. Two kinds of TCSC’s operation modes ware proposed by the paper, which for the suppression of low frequency component of the current.This article, firstly from the lumped parameters, the time domain and frequency domain parameters of related transmission line models, properly choosing the frequency domain related distributed parameters line model as the basic research of the secondary arc current. In the selection of ATP/EMTP simulation and calculation transmission line model of the current, through analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of the Semlyen, Bergeron, J.Marti and Noda models to choose relatively superior, practical J.Marti model for the simulation calculation.Then, the paper introduced the related concepts of the secondary arc, current and recovery voltage, and studied in the emergence and development process of the secondary arc current. Making corresponding discussion for the mathematical model of the secondary arc, and studying the secondary arc’s ATP simulation model combine TACS module with MODELS language.Thirdly, the paper established the lumped parameters model and the distributed parameters model of the secondary arc current. Then it simplified the mathematical model of distributed parameters according to the phase-mode transformation and secondary mode transformation. Then eliminated electromagnetic coupling between the lines, and established the secondary mode modulus of the secondary arc current. Also it discussed the advantages and disadvantages through theoretical study and calculation of the established model for comparative analysis.Then the mechanism of the secondary arc current of low frequency component ware studied. The paper analyzed the frequency of the current according to the equivalent circuit of the transformation, then, extracted low frequency component value. It used the power MUSIC algorithm, which commonly used in the mathematical model, to analyze various frequencies and amplitudes of the current waveform. Then the strategy of TCSC inhibiting the current’s low frequency component ware discussed in detail. The paper put forward TCSC inductive vernier mode and TCSC bypass mode to the inhibition of low frequency component, and used ATP simulation methods to analyze its inhibition effects.Totally, the paper studied the impaction of the transmission line length and fault point location, arc resistance, natural wind and other factors on the current. It put forward the special factor of lightning stroke to the correction of the current mathematical model.
