| Given the current large-scale hydropower extra-high voltage (EHV) transmission system lightning over-voltage protection design is simple, therefore continue to enrich the design tools to improve the design level is very important. Through conducting analysis and comparison on the researches at home and abroad over the lightning voltage field, the ATP-EMTP simulation programs is introduced into the project design process to unfold analysis on lightning over-voltage and insulation coordination of the certain large hydropower station, and establish power plant transmission system simulation model in accordance with the actual situation, through the simulation, the lightning over-voltage and insulation coordination were analyzed, especially focusing on the changing rule of the lightning intruding overvoltage peak of the main transformer and feed reactor under different operating conditions within the power plant, then main transformer and reactor arrester protection should be reviewed to determine the distance and make optimization recommendations based on the research results. By introducing ATP-EMTP simulation program for power transmission systems modeling and calculation of preliminary design, comparing and analyzing the calculation results, to be able to check if the main electrical equipment within the power plant is under effective protection, additionally analyze problems exposed and propose solutions, and also guide the optimization of electrical equipment arrangement within power station.
